The most important and second pillar of Islam is prayer, or salah. Every Muslim is required to pray five times a day, and our beloved prophet told us that we should begin teaching our kids to pray at the age of seven. Our children understand why and when we perform the prayer at this age, and they are prepared to learn several organized actions. As a parent, it is your responsibility to teach your child about salah in simple language and in a variety of ways so that they will love it. On Sadeky, we introduce our new collection of flashcards, “how to pray in islam step by step for kids” which is designed especially to help you in teaching your kids how to pray.

Importance of salah for kids

At the beginning of teaching salah, we can expect a very reasonable question from our kids, which is, why should I pray? How does the prayer benefit me? The answer is that we are all created to worship Allah, and he has commanded us to pray five times per day. Allah gave us all of our blessings, and we should thank him as he instructed us through all of our religious worship.  In the prayer we show our gratitude for Allah’s blessings and ask for forgiveness. Besides, prayer helps us to do good deeds and avoid sins.

How to perform salah step by step

Prayer consists of several actions and sayings, starting with takbeer and ending with Salam. each prayer has a number of raka’ah (pronounced /ˈrɑk.ʕɑ/ or /ˈrɑk.ʔɑ/), which is a complete cycle of prayer, including standing, bowing, prostration, and sitting, along with recitations of specific  verses from the Quran  and saying specific words at certain actions.

Some prayers are loudly prayed, meaning that we recite surah al-fatiha and the verses of the Quran loudly in the first 2 raka’as, and the rest of the prayer we recite silently (in a very low voice like whispering). Other prayers are silently prayed, meaning that we recite Surah Al-fatiha and the Quranic verses silently (in a very low voice) in the whole prayer.
